Who is Allan Schieman?

I was born and raised in Calgary and the youngest of three children. My Mom & Dad owned an equipment rental business right across the street from McMahon Stadium which always gave me a weekend and summer job and taught me the value of hard work.

After university, I was hired at the largest investment firm in the country. I had several positions there, learned a lot about the investment industry and rose through the ranks. But, I fundamentally disagreed with how business was getting done. I believed that investors were purposely being kept in the dark about the severity and scope of the technology bubble and about the hidden fees they were paying. In 1999, after lobbying unsuccessfully for greater transparency and disclosure about fees and risks, I decided to leave and start my own firm.
The company is co-founded managed assets for high net-worth individuals and provided independent investment research. We also specialized in tax planning & estate planning.

My business grew to be one of the largest full service financial advisory firms in western Canada. While this was a happy, prosperous and exciting time for me, I realized that the financial system wasn’t fair. Everyone in the system was making a lot of money except YOU – the retail investor. I also realized that YOU were taking ALL the risks and suffering all the consequences. The fact is that the game is designed for the industry’s benefit – not yours and I decided that it was time to change the rules of the game.

In 2008 at the age of 38, I sold my investment business and decided to speak out on behalf of retail investors. I wrote a book about the dark secrets of the financial industry and began consulting privately to clients on how to properly grow and defend their wealth. I especially love teaching people how to earn higher returns, pay less tax and take a lot less risk. I’ve actually never been happier in my life.

I still live in Calgary with my loving wife Kathy and my 2 1/2 year old son Trey.
